Great Food & Wine Site

The Epicentre is actually an Australian company that sells exotic spices. While their spice collections are pretty cool in their own right, the site has an amazing amount of other great stuff: recipes, articles on wine, an encyclopedia of spices, lots of info on Aussie food, beer, bush-tucker and even the history of Vegemite. Definitely worth a look.

Bacon Scarf ftw!

Tragically, this slightly disturbing gem is sold out.

Apple Not Coming to NAB 2008

Looks like Trey and I managed to attend the last cool NAB last year. Apple, the folks who had the largest and busiest booth in 2007, have decided not make the trek to Vegas this time around. With Avid also skipping the show, it seems like the writing is on the wall as far as NAB no longer being a must-attend event, especially for us post-production types. I suppose it makes sense for
Apple: why pay huge amounts of money to be just another vendor on the floor when they've got MacWorld where they can be the center of attention. Creative Cow's blurb on Apple dropping out HERE.

My Love of The Bloody Mary

Due partially to my new post-hospitalization diet (and partially to my love of the drink in general) I have gone on a semi-obsessive bloody mary kick that has me drinking 3-4 virgin cocktails a week in addition to the occasional booze-filled one on the weekend. I've been refining the recipe slowly and I now have what I consider, at least for my palette, to be the ultimate formula. This can easily be adapted for bulk mixer-making as well, but here's the single-drink version:

10 oz Low-Sodium V8 (the regular kind is too overpowering/salty)
2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
3 dashes Tabasco
1 tsp Spice Hunter Chef's Shake (very importatnt to have this EXACT brand, trust me)
3-4 grinds of freshly cracked black pepper
1 dash celery salt

(optional)
Vodka to taste (I prefer Tito's Handmade)
Garnish with queen olives or a lime wedge

Cool Design Site

Check out Baekdal.com, specifically the design page, for frequently updated links from the world of industrial design, branding and general coolnesss. Pictured on the left, artwork from a truly bizarre Mazda concept car (that's the steering wheel). Click here to check out the whole article, its pretty wild, especially the interior shots.

Ambush Interview #3: Andrew Wheeler

Andrew Wheeler works at Turner Broadcasting and is basically my sensei when it comes to the world of barbecue and the smoking of meats. This picture is pretty close to what he looks like, minus the gray in the beard. He's next up on the ambush block:

1) You're a known barbecue enthusiast. Where's the best 'cue in Atlanta?

I’m going to give Fox Bros a slight edge on Williamson Bros for quality of sides.

2) What celebrity would you most like to see funnel a beer?

Mrs. Garrett from The Facts of Life. [editor's note: the actresses name is Charlotte Rae]

3) Is it ever acceptable for a man to wear Capri pants?

Only if he’s into dudes.

4) Ever rolled on Shabbos?

All the time. I was in a Saturday league as a kid.

5) Better cable network: A&E or The History Channel?

A&E. The history channel has gone to pot. Too much recapping coming in from commercials. An hour long show only seems to have about 20 minutes of actually programming. (PBS rules them both)

SO MANY QUESTIONS!

*Why did Hurley pretend he had never met Ana Lucia? Seemed fairly arbitrary, it's not like he killed her.

*Who are the Oceanic Six? We know we've got Jack, Kate and Hurley, but who are the other three? Ben (I still think he's in the coffin)? Sawyer (Kate says "he'll wonder where I am" or something in last season finale)?

*Seemed like Hurley could hear Jacob when he stumbled on to the cabin. That makes 3 people who can hear him now. How are they connected?

*Why is Locke so awesome? You have to respect a man who stabs, shoots or blows up anything that doesn't fit with his master plan. I want to join his Locke-topia!
